Tata Narrows Path to Victory in Software Trade Secrets Row

Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. shook off claims of unfair competition and conspiracy in a dispute over whether it improperly dug through a competitor’s life insurance software source code, but must continue defending against parallel claims brought under Texas’s Trade Secrets Act, a federal judge said Tuesday.

The Trade Secrets Act is intended to displace conflicting tort and restitutionary claims that had previously provided remedies for the misappropriation of trade secrets, Judge Brantley Starr said for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
