DOJ Antitrust Unit Wants Say in Interdigital, U-Blox Patent Suit

The Department of Justice’s antitrust division plans to get involved in semiconductor module maker U-Blox Holdings AG’s patent infringement lawsuit against mobile technology developer Interdigital Inc., even after U-Blox dropped antitrust claims.

The government will file a statement of interest in the dispute between U-Blox and Interdigital because patent licensing is “relevant” to the antitrust division, the DOJ said in a status report filed late Jan. 29. The government shutdown prevented the DOJ from filing a full statement of interest, used by DOJ attorneys to assert its arguments without being a party to the lawsuit.
