Amazon Deal Faces Threat as Deliveroo Feeds Quarantined Brits

With food delivery services more important than ever, feeding Britons banned from dining out, the U.K.’s tough-talking merger watchdog is walking a tightrope.

The Competition and Markets Authority has thrown up potential obstacles to two proposed delivery services mergers -- Amazon.com Inc.’s minority investment in Deliveroo and Takeaway.com NV’s $8 billion deal for Just Eat Plc -- which it says could hurt competition.

But now the London-based regulator must decide how hard of a line to take against the companies, whose employees have been designated as critical workers by the government and act as a potential lifeline to vulnerable...
