Polycom, Plantronics Could Get Leniency in Bribery Probe

Plantronics Inc. could receive leniency like discounted fines if it actively cooperates with the Justice Department to determine if its recent acquisition, Polycom Inc., engaged in illegal bribery before the deal closed.

Polycom is complying with an investigation by the DOJ and the Securities and Exchange Commission into possible bribery violations that occurred at the company prior to its acquisition by Plantronics, an Aug. 7 Plantronics regulatory filing disclosed.

Plantronics acquired Polycom on July 2 for $2 billion.
