Virgin, Alaska Air Workers’ Wage Recovery Trimmed After Appeal

Virgin America and Alaska Airlines flight attendants will receive millions in penalties—less than their original award but more than the airlines wanted to pay—after their wage case was reevaluated following an appeal.

Virgin America Inc. and Alaska Airlines Inc. are still on the hook for some penalties under California’s Private Attorneys General Act and for wage statement and waiting time violations, the US District Court for the Northern District of California said. The court used its discretion to trim the remaining PAGA penalties by 25%, significantly less than the 75% reduction the airlines sought.
