The University of Michigan and attorneys for approximately 1,050 students who alleged abuse by the late Dr. Robert Anderson announced Wednesday they have reached a $490 million settlement resolving all of those survivors’ claims against the university.
The settlement must be approved by the Board of Regents, 98% of the claimants, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, the university announced.
Of that total, $460 million will be available to the claimants, and $30 million would be reserved for future claimants who choose to participate in the settlement before July 31, 2023.
