University of Michigan Nixed Firing of Abusive Doctor, Suit Says

A University of Michigan administrator says he was overridden by the athletic director after he fired school physician Robert Anderson in 1979 for sexually abusing male student athletes, an amended complaint in the Eastern District of Michigan says.

Thursday’s filing in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan cites the deposition testimony of Tom Easthope, Anderson’s direct supervisor, which says that then-athletic director Don Canham was behind the decision to override the doctor’s firing.
