Under Armour Used Covid as Excuse to Exit Deal, UCLA Tells Court

Under Armour Inc. can’t use the Covid-19 pandemic to back out of a $280 million athletics sponsorship contract, the University of California told a judge in Los Angeles.

In 2016, the athletics company and the University of California, Los Angeles, signed the largest apparel sponsorship deal in the history of American collegiate sports, the university said in a lawsuit filed in September 2020. The deal was ultimately too expensive for Under Armour, the suit alleges, and the company terminated its sponsorship in June 2020, citing the pandemic.
