Uber Drivers’ $1.3 Million Settlement Withstands Appeal

A $1.3 million settlement between Uber Technologies Inc. and drivers who say they were misclassified as independent contractors survived an appeal.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit July 16 rejected a challenge to the collective action settlement in an unpublished per curiam opinion.

More than 5,000 drivers will receive payouts ranging from $50 to almost $5,000, with $140 being the average.

The U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina approved the settlement in January.
