Oil Giants Want Rhode Island Climate Suit Sent to Federal Court

Oil and gas companies including Exxon Mobil Corp., Chevron Corp., and others said the First Circuit should consider two new factors and determine that Rhode Island’s climate lawsuit should stay in federal court.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit previously rejected their argument that the case should be removed from state court under federal officer jurisdiction, which applies to cases involving U.S. officials. Oil contracts with the federal government failed to qualify, the court said in October.
