Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft (R) is dropping for now his effort to block a referendum petition drive aimed at overturning the state’s new eight-week abortion ban.
Ashcroft will abide by a ruling from the Missouri Court of Appeals earlier this week requiring him to give initial approval to the petition forms filed by the ACLU, he said in a July 12 statement.
The American Civil Liberties Union is leading the charge against the ban, which lawmakers passed in May. Ashcroft continues to drag his feet in an effort to prevent the referendum from taking place, the organization said ...
