GE, Canon Shave Some Claims in Phishing-Related Data Breach Suit

General Electric Co. and Canon Business Process Services Inc. Wednesday convinced a federal judge to throw out several claims in a proposed class action brought by a former GE employee over a data breach that occurred due to a phishing scam.

Former GE employee Steven Fowler sued seeking to represent other GE workers whose personally identifiable information was exposed during a data breach in early 2020. The breach occurred due to a successful phishing atttack targeting an email account belonging to Canon, which provides business process and document management services to GE.
