Florida School’s Transgender Bathroom Rule Unconstitutional

A Florida school district’s policy barring a transgender student from using the boy’s restroom at his local high school violated both the U.S. Constitution’s guarantee of equal protection and the Title IX prohibition of sex discrimination, the Eleventh Circuit affirmed Friday.

Drew Adams, a transgender boy, sued the St. Johns County school board in 2017, and after a bench trial, a federal court found he was entitled to declaratory, injunctive, and monetary relief.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit upheld the ruling over the school’s appeal.
