Delphi Retirees Denied Supreme Court Look at Pension Takeover

Delphi Corp. retirees on Tuesday failed to convince the U.S. Supreme Court to hear their case challenging the 2009 government takeover of their pension plans in connection with the auto industry bailout.

The justices won’t consider a recent decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit that upheld the pension takeover against a challenge brought by Delphi retirees, who say they lost out on benefits under the deal. The Sixth Circuit rejected the retirees’ challenge after holding they didn’t have a property interest in the full amount of their vested pension benefits.
