CFPB Violated Depositions Order, Eleventh Circuit Affirms

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau abused the discovery process in their civil action against alleged fraudsters, the Eleventh Circuit determined on Monday, affirming the district court’s sanctions.

CFPB filed a civil case against 18 defendants in the US District Court for the Northern District of Georgia for “engaging in or substantially assisting a fraudulent debt collection scheme,” according to court documents. CFPB objected to deposition requests during discovery. When the court compelled depositions anyway, CFPB allegedly went out of it’s way to make the process more difficult.
