Center for Biological Diversity Sues Over PVC Waste Inaction (1)

The EPA was hit with a lawsuit in federal court in the District of Columbia Thursday over the agency’s alleged inaction on a petition to classify discarded polyvinyl chloride as hazardous waste.

The Center for Biological Diversity says it petitioned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 2014 to classify discarded PVC as a hazardous waste under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. It is considered “one of the most hazardous consumer products ever created,” and is found in packaging, toys for kids, building materials, and more, the complaint alleges.
