BP Seeks Appeals Court’s Help to Avoid $900,000 Gas Royalty Bill

BP America Production Co. wants the Tenth Circuit to undo a judge’s finding that it must pay about $900,000 for royalties linked to production from federal natural gas leases in Wyoming, according to a notice of appeal filed by the company.

The state of Wyoming ordered the company in 2016 to pay more than $1 million in unpaid royalties for the period of January to October 2012. BP argued it was only responsible for January through March of that year because it sold properties to Linn Energy Holdings LLC effective April 2012.
