Amazon Hit With Class Suit by Job Seeker Over Marijuana Testing

Amazon.com Inc.'s policy of screening potential new hires for marijuana violates a recent New York City law generally banning such practices except for certain nonexempt positions, a failed applicant at the company’s Staten Island warehouse charges in a class lawsuit.

Michael Thomas says he applied for a sortation associate position at the fulfillment center Nov. 10 and was offered the job following the interview contingent on passing pre-employment drug screening. Amazon told him Dec. 27 that he wouldn’t be hired after all because he tested positive for marijuana, Thomas says.
