ACLU Clears First Hurdle to Put Eight-Week Abortion Ban to Vote

The ACLU has cleared the first hurdle in its attempt to get voters to overturn Missouri’s new law criminalizing abortions performed more than eight weeks after the woman’s last menstrual period.

Missouri Secretary of State John Ashcroft must allow the American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri to proceed with the process outlined by state law for putting a referendum on the ballot to repeal HB 126, the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, said July 8.

The Missouri legislature in May repealed seven abortion regulations and replaced them with 17 new restrictions in HB 126.
