California Judges Can’t Blurb Books They Didn’t Contribute to

Judicial officers in California may not provide a marketing blurb for the cover of a legal book if they didn’t contribute to the work, the California Supreme Court’s Committee on Judicial Ethics said Thursday.

Judges may participate in reviews and criticism when the primary purpose is to engage in educational discourse related to the law, the committee said. The content of the review must comply with the Code of Judicial Ethics, the committee noted.
