Wintrust Beats Patent Suit Over Mobile Banking Feature

Wintrust Bank NA secured a quick win in a patent suit over its “Cardless Cash” mobile banking feature, after a district court judge found the patent covered nothing more than an abstract idea.

Judge Matthew Kennelly in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois granted Wintrust’s motion to dismiss Peoplechart Corp.’s lawsuit and invalidated U.S. Patent No. 8,869,249, covering a method for reducing unauthorized access to sensitive information.
