Wine-Growing California County Renews Its Anti-Marijuana Statute

A California county best known for its wineries has renewed its ban on commercial cannabis operations, temporarily pausing a debate over whether marijuana is a threat or an opportunity in Napa Valley.

Napa County supervisors on Tuesday approved an ordinance to extend a ban on all forms of commercial cannabis activity in the unincorporated area of the agricultural county.

Wine makers had argued that their branding and reputation would be at risk if marijuana was allowed to grow alongside a grape crop that was worth more than $1 billion last year, according to the county Agriculture Department.
