Viasat Keeps $49 Million Award Even As Trade Secrets Win Undone

Communications company Viasat Inc. retained essentially all of a $49.3 million award from Acacia Communications despite a California state appeals court reversing a jury’s trade secrets finding.

Acacia failed to refute a verdict that it breached a contract by incorporating Viasat’s technology from a joint business relationship into its own, newer products, California’s Court of Appeal for the Fourth Appellate District said. The court reversed verdicts that Acacia stole trade secrets and breached the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing.
