Umami Burger Sues ‘Umami Fries’ Restaurant Over Trademarks

Gourmet burger chain Umami Burger sued a restaurant called Umami Fries in Oklahoma federal court for allegedly infringing its trademarks by using the “Umami” name to sell burgers and fries.

The “critically acclaimed” Umami Burger started in Los Angeles and has 12 U.S. locations with plans to expand, it told the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma on Thursday. The complaint also says Umami Burger has been covered by Oklahoma publications, although the restaurant doesn’t have any locations in the state. Umami Fries has locations in Tulsa and Minneapolis, according to its website.
