UC Davis, Ex-Professors Settle Strawberry Patent Fight

The University of California Davis’ renowned strawberry program and two former professors are ending a dispute over control of new berry plant varieties.

The former UC professors are giving up $2.5 million in future royalties and handing over varieties crossbred with the school’s unreleased seeds after they left, according to a Sept. 15 proposed settlement (The Regents of the University of California v. California Berry Cultivars, LLC, N.D. Cal., No. 3:16-cv-02477, proposed settlement 9/15/17).
