Trademark Office Creates Fast Lane For Covid-Related Products

June 15, 2020, 9:34 PM

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is prioritizing trademark registrations for entities selling medical products and services addressing the Covid-19 pandemic, the agency said.

The office announced it would prioritize registration of pandemic-related products as a way to help get critical items to market as quickly as possible.

Applicants can file a petition, with the usual fee waived, to advance the initial application for marks on pharmaceutical products; medical devices including diagnostic tests, ventilators and protective equipment; and medical services involving Covid-19 prevention, diagnosis, treatment or cure.

The process would expedite examination by at least two months by getting it immediately to an examiner. Applicants could save more time by quickly responding to examiner requests for fixes or clarifications to the application, the agency said.
