Samsung Sued for Patent Infringement Over LED Display Technology

Nanoco Technologies Ltd. sued Samsung Electronics Co. in Texas federal court for allegedly infringing patents that cover “quantum dot” technology used to enhance television displays.

Specifically, the Feb. 14 complaint says Samsung’s QLED TVs infringe five patents related to the use of “heavy metal-free quantum dots” to mitigate health risks, the “synthesis” of quantum dots, and the “use of quantum dot film resins in electronic display devices.”

Nanoco says it owns hundreds of patents related to quantum dots, “small, semiconductor particles that have unique optical and electronic properties, including the ability to produce pure monochromatic red, green, and/or blue light.” ...
