Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams Challenge ‘Blurred Lines’ Ruling

Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams are asking the full U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit to reconsider whether their 2013 hit song “Blurred Lines” infringed the copyright interest in a 1977 Marvin Gaye song.

A three-judge Ninth Circuit panel affirmed a verdict handed down by a federal trial jury in favor of Gaye’s heirs. Some music scholars and copyright lawyers have said that Gaye’s victory amounted to a right over a genre of music rather than a specific composition.
