RCN’s Bid to Dismiss Music Labels’ Copyright Claims Fails

A lawsuit brought by a group of major record labels against internet service provider RCN Telecom Services LLC for allegedly ignoring “massive” copyright infringement by its subscribers survived RCN’s motion to dismiss in New Jersey federal court.

Music labels have sued multiple ISPs for allegedly failing to take action against users that infringe their copyrights repeatedly. Here, the labels—including Universal Music Group, Capitol Records, Sony Music, and others—said they engaged copyright enforcement company Rightscorp to track internet-based copyright infringement.
