The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is extending a program to fast-track appeals of patent examiner decisions.
Unveiled in July 2020, the Fast-Track Appeals Pilot Program sets a target date of six months for an appeal decision—about half the time of a normal appeal. The program was set to expire Friday.
The patent office said it will extend the program another year. The office also said it would remove a cap of 500 fast-tracked appeals. There is still a limit of 125 granted petitions per quarter.
