Patent Office Director Review Backs Refusal to Hear RF Tag Case

The US Patent and Trademark Office head sided with an administrative tribunal’s decision not to hear a case regarding a patent for a radio frequency identification tag on Thursday.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board on Aug. 25 upheld its decision declining to consider a case brought by NXP USA Inc., a global semiconductor maker, against a radio-frequency identification device and software manufacturer Impinj over US Patent No. 10,776,198. It covers a radio frequency identification tag that stores an identifier and a check code.
