The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has canceled en banc hearings and all non-case related meetings scheduled for next week amid coronavirus concerns.
All scheduled oral arguments will proceed unless otherwise noted, and three-judge panels will have discretion over court proceedings pending before them, according to a message posted to the Ninth Circuit’s website March 6.
The coronavirus outbreak, which started in China, has spread globally, surpassing 100,000 cases worldwide, Bloomberg has reported. The announcement comes as courts across the U.S. are contemplating best practices to limit the spread of the coronavirus through community spread.
Ahead of the Ninth Circuit announcement, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington postponed in-court proceedings in Seattle and Tacoma courtrooms. Seattle-area is currently experiencing an outbreak of the virus and has reported multiple deaths.
