‘Nightcrawler’ Doesn’t Copy Earlier Los Angeles Stringer Movie

The 2014 film “Nightcrawler” isn’t substantially similar to the 2007 film “Falling” even though both are about freelance videographers who use police scanners to search for crime to film, the District of Utah said Aug. 19.

After filtering out the unprotectable “stock” elements of “Falling,” no reasonable jury could find that “Nightcrawler” infringed its copyright, the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah said.
