NFT, IP Study by Patent, Copyright Offices Opens to Comments

The US Patent and Trademark Office and Copyright Office are requesting public input for a joint study on intellectual property issues associated with non-fungible tokens.

The agencies will hold a series of three public roundtables to gather further input and will request written comments in a Federal Register Notice set to publish on Wednesday. The notice asks for views on IP-related challenges and opportunities associated with NFTs, the current and potential future uses of NFTs in commenters’ fields, and the extent NFTs rely on copyrights, trademarks, and patents.
