LegalForce Suffers Setback in Trademark Mailer Suit

A company accused of sending misleading solicitations to trademark applicants will be able to escape intellectual property law firm LegalForce RAPC Worldwide’s lawsuit, at least temporarily, a federal court in San Jose ruled Nov. 14.

LegalForce sued 18 defendants, including WTMR LLC. WTMR sent out solicitations, made to look like they originated from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office or another government agency, asking recipients to pay a $980 registration fee to have their trademark listed in a publication, “raising fear among the unsuspecting public that they must pay large amounts of money or forfeit trademark rights,” Legal Force said....
