Justices Call for Government’s Views on Defining Patent Terms

The U.S. Supreme Court asked the federal government to weigh in on whether the Federal Circuit violated the Seventh Amendment by overturning a $1.7 million jury verdict in a patent infringement case.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit held in January 2021 that a winch for moving theater scenery and lighting made by Daktronics Inc. didn’t meet the necessary elements of the patent and or infringe by using equivalent elements.
