Intel Looks to Join Board Review of Patent in $2 Billion Verdict

Intel Corp. asked an administrative tribunal to let it participate in the review of one of two patents the chipmaker was told to pay over $2 billion for infringing.

OpenSky Industries LLC petitioned the Patent Trial and Appeal Board this summer to review VLSI’s U.S. Patent Nos. 7,725,759 and 7,523,373. The board said Dec. 23 it would review the ‘759 patent. It declined to review the ‘373 patent.

The PTAB’s decisions about the two patents mark another twist in a high-profile legal fight over microprocessor technology.
