IGT Knocks Out Much of Digital Slot Machine Copyright Suit (1)

Global gaming company International Game Technology PLC defeated most of an infringement lawsuit claiming that the company copied a competitor’s digital slot games.

IGT’s “Kitty Glitter” and “Maid of Money” games featured slot games with the same name and concepts as games by a competitor, GC2 Inc., but the art in IGT’s games looked nothing like the art GC2 used, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois ruled Nov. 12. A slot game with a given theme doesn’t qualify for copyright protection, the court said.
