Herman Miller Furniture Company Siphoned Royalties, Suit Says

Herman Miller Inc. helped create a foundation to showcase the work of American modernist designer George Nelson and then conspired with its director to “dupe and defraud” Nelson’s elderly widow into giving the company the rights to Nelson’s bubble lamps, a new suit alleges.

Herman Miller “has presided over a highly complex and intentionally convoluted fraudulent scheme” to steal the Nelson family’s intellectual property interests in the designs and take the royalty payments for itself, according to Nelson’s son, Georges Mico Nelson, and the estate of Nelson’s widow, Jacqueline Nelson.
