Groupon Gets PTAB Win Over Incentives Program Patent (1)

Groupon Inc. won Patent Trial and Appeal Board decisions that invalidated claims in a rival’s incentive program patent, a victory that comes amid their infringement litigation.

Kroy IP Holdings LLC sued the online market operator for infringing its patent 6,061,660, which involves a process for offering incentive programs on a computer network.

But the board, in two decisions Thursday, said claims in the patent were obvious in view of previously issued patents, including one for a system for prize redemption for games.
