Google, Amazon Urge Congress to Eye Patent Board Trial Denials

A group of large technology companies is urging U.S. lawmakers to investigate a Patent and Trademark Office policy they say is leading to more litigation and harming the economy.

Amazon.com Inc., Alphabet Inc.'s Google, Microsoft Corp., and Oracle Corp. are among the companies that signed on to a letter asking lawmakers to look into the Patent Trial and Appeal Board’s increasing use of discretion to deny inter partes reviews.

The letter is part of a growing battle over the patent office’s passing on validity trials in view of factors involving related litigation under the NHK-Fintiv Rule.
