For Copyright Office, Small Steps on the Road to Modernization

The Copyright Office—still a long way from having a one-click digital database of all recorded material—is edging toward modernization by suggesting small steps to streamline an outdated examination process and chip away at a mountain of incoming printed materials.

The steps were put forth Aug. 16 in a proposed rule that’s subject to a public notice and comment period. The earliest they could take effect is November, the office said.
