Federal Circuit Upholds Voiding of Semiconductor Patent Claims

Micron Technology Inc.‘s successful bid to get the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to invalidate claims of a semiconductor patent survived a Federal Circuit appeal.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit affirmed a Patent Trial and Appeal Board ruling that the claims were obvious in light of prior inventions. It rejected patent owner Lone Star Silicon Innovations LLC’s argument that its U.S. Patent No. 6,388,330 added something to the prior art.
