Copyrighted Artwork Can’t Be Resold in Pieces, Danish Court Says

A company that bought the painting “Paris Chic” can’t sell pieces of it in the faces of wristwatches because the artist still retains the copyright to the original work and can legally block that use, a Danish court ruled.

Kanske Denmark ApS’s plans for the painting would breach the Danish Copyright Act because it would make the work available to the general public in a changed form that would violate the artist Tal R’s reputation, Denmark’s Maritime and Commercial Court said.
