China’s TCL Faces Canon’s Patent Claims Over Roku TVs in U.S.

Canon Inc. may proceed with patent infringement claims over Roku TVs against China-based TCL Corp. and its Chinese subsidiaries in Texas federal court, which rejected arguments that it doesn’t have jurisdiction over them.

Canon sufficiently showed that TCL and two subsidiaries placed the allegedly infringing Roku TVs into the U.S. stream of commerce, the court said in an opinion entered Thursday.

TCL was sued in 2018 for allegedly using technology developed by Canon in its smart televisions’ design, remote control, display, streaming, search, voice command, and cloud storage functions.
