Cher Sues Sonny Bono’s Widow Over Rights to ‘I Got You Babe’

Sonny Bono’s widow is wrongly trying to invoke a copyright law to take away Cher’s rights and royalties to “I Got You Babe” and other hits, according to a lawsuit Cher filed in a California federal court.

Former U.S. Rep. Mary Bono is claiming that termination rights in the Copyright Act, a provision that lets creators reclaim their rights to works 35 to 40 years after signing them away, should allow her to stop paying Cher royalties.
