The Federal Circuit reversed and remanded the decision of a federal district court in Virginia that Alarm.com’s claims challenging the patent office’s decisions to vacate the ex parte reexamination proceedings of Vivint Inc.'s patents on remote monitoring systems are precluded. The Patent and Trademark Office said Alarm.com was estopped because it had already challenged the same patent claims in inter partes review, and the district court dismissed the suit.
