Arcelormittal Patent Case Against AK Steel Revived on Appeal

Nov. 5, 2018, 3:09 PM

In a sealed opinion, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit vacated and remanded a case in which ArcelorMittal had sought to revive a patent infringement suit against AK Steel.

The dispute, which dates back to 2013, is over high-strength steel used by automobile manufacturers.

The trial court had ruled there was no infringement by West Chester, Ohio-based AK Steel Corp. Luxembourg-based Arcelor Mittal appealed.

ArcelorMittal told the court in March that AK Steel ’s representations to car manufacturers about uses for its steel products make it liable for patent infringement.
