Apple Sued in Texas Court Over LTE Tech Patents

A group of companies is suing Apple Inc. for allegedly refusing to pay licensing royalties and infringing patents related to LTE wireless technology.

Optis Wireless Technology LLC, Unwired Planet LLC, and PanOptis Patent Management LLC accused Apple of willfully infringing seven patents that cover techniques for connecting and transmitting information to LTE wireless networks, in a lawsuit filed Feb. 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

The companies said they “repeatedly negotiated with Apple” for a global licensing agreement under fair reasonable and non-discriminatory, or FRAND, terms set by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute. But ...
