The U.S. Supreme Court will weigh in on whether patent owners and other parties can appeal a U. S. Patent and Trademark Office decision to hold a validity trial, based on the timeliness of a patent challenge petition.

The justices June 24 agreed to hear one part of a petition from Dex Media Inc. challenging a U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit’s ruling against it.
